Answers

Can I use up my pre-printed temporary tag stock?

After July 1st, 2008, you may NOT issue pre-printed temp tags unless either ADDTag, Inc. or the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) system is/are down.

How long does it take to receive temporary tag blank stock once I order?

Orders are shipped the same day they are received if the order is placed before 3:00pm Monday through Friday, but please make sure to order your blank temp tags before you run out of your current stock, as it may take several days for the tags to reach you once an order is shipped.

Is participation in the electronic temporary registration program required by Florida law?

In accordance with Florida Statute 320.96, effective July 1, 2008, all dealers must issue electronic temporary registrations to customers to whom they have sold a vehicle (if the customer does not have a metal plate to transfer.)

What are the system requirements for ADDTag?

ADDTag requires an Internet connection (dial-up will work), a laser printer, Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 or later, and Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X, or Linux with kernel 1.4 or later.

What happens if the DHSMV or ADDTag computers are down?

If the DHSMV or ADDTag is down and you are unable to process your Print-on- Demand temp tag upload, you may issue an old style pre-printed tag. Keep a stack of pre-printed tags for use in the event the DHSMV system is down. You MUST electronically report this pre-printed tag issuance to the DHSMV within one business day. ADDTag allows you to do this by choosing the Electronic Report Only option on the Temporary Tag Information screen. Your 24 hour registration window will be extended for whatever period the respective system was down.

In addition, you MUST complete the new HSMV form 82082 and keep this form in the deal jacket for 5 years. A copy of the HSMV form 82082 is available here. Please print a copy and file onsite for your use.

What type of printer do I need to print temporary tags?

ADDTag’s temp tag program will work with virtually any standard laser printer.

Can a metal plate transfer be temporarily transferred to more than one registered owner?

For a temporary metal plate transfer, only one of the existing owners on the registration will remain on the record during the time that the registration is “temporary”.

Can I still print my customer a temporary tag if they have a metal plate to transfer?

If a customer brings in a metal plate and wishes to transfer their tag (must have at least 30 days left on registration) you are obligated to perform the tag transfer and print out a temporarily transferred registration. The customer must physically have the tag in order to complete this transaction.

Do I still have to do my paperwork at the Tag office?

Yes, you will still need to do all of the tag and title paperwork at the tax collector or tag office. Using the Tag Transfer option does not permanently transfer the plate. It will only assign a TEMPORARY transaction, fees and taxes are still owed to the state as well as insurance information. YOU MUST still file your paperwork with the tag office within 30 days of the deal completion.

How does this affect the new title and registration?

If the vehicle receiving the temporarily transferred registration was previously titled and/ or registered in Florida, the title will be marked as sold and the old registration detached when the new registration is transferred to the vehicle.

How will this affect insurance requirements?

Dealers are not required to submit insurance information during Temporary Metal Plate Transfer transaction. Dealers are still required to collect and submit insurance information with the title and registration work submitted to a Tax Collector or License Plate agency.

What if my customer decides not to purchase the vehicle after I have already completed the tag transfer and printed out a temporary registration?

You can void out a temporary transfer transaction only on the day of issuance. If the deal unwinds after the date of issuance there will be an option to RESTORE. This restore function will return the customers metal plate to the previous VIN number it was assigned to.

Can I still complete the temporary transfer process if the registration or drivers license address associated with the metal plate has changed?

Yes. You will be able to modify the information in the fields provided and complete the temporary transfer process.

What if the temporary metal plate transfer expires, and the permanent transfer has not occurred?

If the registration for a Temporary Metal Plate Transfer expires before the title and the permanent transfer occur, then the dealer must perform a RESTORE and then process an ETR temporary plate transaction.

What if there is a system outage?

When the system is down (either the vendor’s system or DHSMV) a Temporary Metal Plate Transfer cannot be performed and a pre-printed paper temporary plate may be issued. All rules for Off-line Temporary Plate processing will apply.

If a pre-printed paper temporary plate expires before the permanent Registration Transfer has been completed, the dealer may perform a Temporary Metal Plate Transfer transaction.

What if they have a valid metal tag, but left it at home?

If your customer does not physically have their metal plate with them, you will need to issue a temporary tag which will be valid for 30 days.

Will the registration expiration date change?

The existing registration date will be retained under the new temporary metal plate transfer rules.

When are Florida dealers allowed to issue pre-printed temporary tags?

When the Florida DHSMV is down or dealers are otherwise unable to access the online Temporary Tag or Temporary Metal Plate Transfer System, a pre-printed tag may be issued.

What is the procedure for offline issuance of a pre-printed temporary tag?

When issuing a pre-printed temporary tag:

  • Complete DHSMV Form 82082 when issuing a pre-printed tag.
  • Log in to ADD123.com and report the issuance of all pre-printed tag within one business day.
