DMV123 Real-Time Data Protects Your Business and Consumers

on Thursday, December 7, 2017 by Beth Williams

As a valued customer of ADD, your business benefits from access to real-time state title records through your DMV123 tab. Depending on your DPPA exemption, you may be able to query up to 34 states for vital data.

It’s important to understand why ADD has taken the more difficult path of only providing real-time data rather than purchasing state records in bulk like many other data providers. ADD knows that the most current data protects your business and the consumer from possible errors based on stale information.

There is no way to be certain that bulk data is accurate and up-to-date due to the time gap between purchases and updates. For example, the minimum time between each bulk data purchase in Florida is one week. If a transfer of ownership occurs during the week, an important notification such as a Claim of Lien by a tow operator could be sent to the previous owner, lien holder, or insurance company. In some jurisdictions, bulk data purchases can sometimes be up to 30 days old. Consumers are at risk of losing a significant piece of personal property (their vehicle) and businesses that are required to make certain notifications to owners/lien holders are delayed in their ability to complete those important transactions.

In many states, when a motor vehicle is reported stolen, a stop is also placed on the title record to prevent the title on the stolen vehicle from being transferred. Additionally, when law enforcement or DMV personnel identify a fraudulent title transaction they routinely place administrative stops on the title records to prevent the suspect from transferring the fraudulently titled vehicle. These stops placed on title records protect consumers from becoming victims that were sold stolen or fraudulently titled vehicles. Only real time data inquiries can fully protect consumers and your business!

The ADD team is constantly speaking with those remaining jurisdictions. Their efforts to contract with those remaining states focus on how to create a program that benefits the state department, its constituents, and the valued business customers who qualify for these records.
