The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) has made changes to the requirements regarding temporary tags and temporary metal plate transfers.

Before April 1st dealers must verify that all employees authorized to process temporary tags and tag transfers have had anFDLE criminal history check.

  • Criminal history checks are available on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s website. The cost is $24.00 for each history check, and results are returned immediately.

  • Any FDLE criminal history check done within the last three years on principals or employees is valid.

  • Dealers who have not complied by April 1, 2011 will not be able to process temporary tags/transfers.

  • After criminal history checks are completed by the dealer, the contact user will need to log in to the Auto Data Direct website. ADDTag will provide an online verification statement to be checked off by the account dealer license holder/contact person. The contact user will verify that background checks have been performed for every user on the account.

  • Dealers do not need to fax, mail or email Auto Data Direct or ADDTag the results of the criminal background check.
