Updating Software

Out of date software is one of the biggest culprits when experiencing problems online. To ensure that you have no difficulty accessing the ADD website or viewing documents, be sure to update your software regularly.

Adobe Reader

Temp Tags and printable forms generated on the ADD website are all opened as PDFs. Adobe Reader is the preferred and trusted program to open PDF files. Be sure to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer before getting started. You can download Adobe Reader at no cost from the Support page.

Restarting Your Computer

Sometimes when your computer just doesn’t seem to be running the way it should, ADD recommends simply restarting your computer. This is the first troubleshooting step we recommend when you’re experiencing technical issues. Restarting allows your system to reset and correct any errors that may have cropped up while it was previously running. It may seem like an insignificant way to fix a computer issue but sometimes that’s all it takes!

Disabling Your Web Browser’s PDF Viewer

A common issue when having difficulties opening PDFs is the web browser’s built-in PDF Viewer. Below are simple instructions on how to quickly disable this option.

In Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and type “about:plugins” where you would type a web address.
  2. Scroll down and find Chrome PDF Viewer.
  3. Click the Disable link to prevent PDFs from loading within Chrome.

In Firefox:

  1. Click the menu button and choose Options.
  2. Select the Applications panel.
  3. Find “Portable Document Format (PDF)” in the list and click on it to select it.
  4. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column and select “Use Adobe Reader”.
