State Fee Increase for Florida Inquiries
on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 by Auto Data DirectFor many years, Florida tax collectors have had the ability to provide a motor vehicle record to qualified entities without collecting a statutorily mandated 50-cent fee (320.05 FS). Businesses, including Auto Data Direct and its customers, have benefited from this because several tax collectors opted not to collect the 50-cent fee. In its need for additional revenue, the Florida Legislature has closed this loophole effective January 1, 2011. Due in part to the ratification of this legislation requiring the collection of a fee on each inquiry, many counties are turning off their Tag Talk call-in inquiry systems, as most Tag Talk systems are not designed to allow the collection of fees.
In order to comply with the new law in January, Auto Data Direct will begin to collect this fee on behalf of the DHSMV through increasing Florida motor vehicle inquiries by 50 cents. Auto Data Direct has also reached out to tax collectors and businesses all over the state to help meet the inquiry need that the discontinuation of Tag Talk has created.
