DMV123: Access to Real-Time Data Continues to Grow
on Thursday, August 22, 2013 by Beth WilliamsBefore starting ADD in 1999, Jim Taylor worked with businesses to process titles and registrations. He found that the error rate on paperwork submitted was extremely high, and the large numbers of returned forms and applications cost his customers time and money. When Auto Data Direct (ADD) was founded in 1999, its was based on the idea that instant, web-based access to real-time Florida motor vehicle records would allow customers to electronically retrieve DMV data, migrate it into forms and applications, and be able to process paperwork with confidence that documents wouldn’t be returned for inaccurate information.
Fourteen years later, ADD has expanded that vision, and now offers access to 28 state databases for companies qualified under the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). And we’re not stopping there! ADD is working to add even more states to the selection available through its DMV123 service.
ADD is often asked when a certain state will be available, or why some states restrict access to specific industries. As easy as it would be if the rules were the same across the nation, each jurisdiction is governed individually, and has its own rules related to managing protected information such as motor vehicle records – rules that are often written into state statutes. Additionally, state records vary in terms of the information available. ADD’s focus is to obtain, at minimum, owner and lien holder information. Other vehicle data, such as title numbers, tag numbers or stolen information may be included only when provided by the state. In all cases, this real-time information is highly confidential and is intended for use ONLY for purposes allowed under the federal and state DPPA.
If you have an ADD account and would like to learn more about our multi-state access to real-time DMV123 records, email ADD or call one of our friendly and knowledgeable customer service representatives to find out if your company qualifies for access.
