Protect Your Business This Tax Season.
for Salvage on Thursday, March 30, 2017 by Sarah Kathryn WrightThis time of year, when tax refunds drive sales, NMVTIS Title Check reports from ADD can help dealers quickly evaluate vehicles and provide potential buyers with an official federal vehicle history report. Available in every ADD account and incorporating data from the federal National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), the reports are designed to allow businesses and consumers the ability to verify a vehicle’s history prior to taking a trade in or making a purchase.
NMVTIS information includes a vehicle’s current title, any brands applied to the title, its previous states of title, and reported odometer readings. ADD’s reports also contain salvage and/or total loss declarations from insurance companies or self-insuring organizations, and reports from auto recyclers who may have handled the vehicle. For businesses, ADD also incorporates a national theft check into the report.
This information is especially useful to dealers during the hectic tax sale season. ADD’s NMVTIS Title Check reports help auto dealers quickly confirm the vehicle’s current state of title, make sure that the title hasn’t been branded, and verify that the vehicle doesn’t have an undisclosed theft or total loss history.
While the dealer reports are designed for trade-in checks, and to give businesses a quick overview of vehicle information, there’s also a “consumer” version included free of charge that dealers can print out for potential buyers. This expanded format looks more like the private vehicle history reports buyers are used to, with explanations of terms like title brands, and detailed vehicle information such as manufacturing specs, safety features and more, all decoded from the VIN.
The information in NMVTIS is a great peace of mind resource for dealers and buyers alike. In fact, in July of 2012 a California state law went into effect requiring any dealer who offers a vehicle for retail sale to obtain a NMVTIS report and have it available for a customer to view.
ADD’s NMVTIS title check records are available online, without minimum purchase requirements, contracts, monthly or annual fees. For more information, call 855-300-3455 or click here to learn more about NMVTIS Title Check Reports.
