Prove It! Three Ways to Confirm NMVTIS Compliance
on Thursday, August 22, 2013 by Jay SvendsenIn 2013 legislative sessions across the US, 17 NMVTIS-related bills were introduced in 10 states, seven of which became law. Many of these bills had language that created state licensing or reporting requirements for companies that handle salvage vehicles, some added NMVTIS reporting timelines to existing statutes, while others created state fines for non-reporting.
As NMVTIS requirements grow and enforcement expands at the state and local levels, proof of compliance is more and more important for businesses that handle junk, salvage and total loss vehicles.
To help its users prove compliance, and to meet new state regulations, Auto Data Direct (ADD) offers three different proof of compliance tools to its NMVTIS reporting customers:
NMVTIS ID Confirmation Available under the My Account tab, ADD’s NMVTIS ID Confirmation is a printable letter listing the company name, contact information (name and address) and assigned NMVTIS ID, as well as ADD’s contact details. The letter offers proof that the listed business has signed up to report to NMVTIS through ADD, an approved data consolidator, as required.
NMVTIS Upload Compliance Reports Federal NMVTIS regulations require businesses to report all salvage vehicles obtained at least once every 30 days. To provide proof of compliance for this requirement, ADD offers a printable list of the number of unique VINs reported under a NMVTIS ID, by month. If a business has more than one NMVTIS ID, each ID will be listed separately. To access the report, select the NMVTIS Vehicle Upload tab, then the NMVTIS Compliance Report tab after log in.
NMVTIS Reporting Receipts Many states now require specific proof that a vehicle has been reported in order to process salvage title applications, certificates of destruction or other state forms. To meet this need, ADD provides printable receipts listing the VIN, the date and time the vehicle was reported and the reported status. Reporting receipts are available in the Record Manifest for Full Service customers, or via email for Basic Service users.
