Learn the recycler’s responsibilities when they acquire a salvage vehicle with an open recall. How can you determine if there is an open recall on acquired inventory? Are all recalls the same? Which parts on the car might have liability if they are resold? Does NMVTIS reporting of a salvage vehicle close out a recall notice? It’s been around since 1992, wasn’t publicly available until 2009, and didn’t garner a lot of attention until a few years ago, but the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) has been growing im popularity as a business tool within auto-related industries. As it nears its seventh anniversary of public availability, the NMVTIS databse contains over 1.2 billion records, or 96% of US DMV title data. Today, the system is used by states, law enforcement and individuals for a variety of purposes, but there are still many US businesses and industries that aren’t taking advantage of the low-cost records available from the government database. So, why should corporate entities integrate a NMVTIS check into their business processes?

ADD has been working diligently to build and test its newly modernized Electronic Temporary Registration (ETR) platform. We would like to thank all of our testing dealers for their helpful feedback and assistance over the past few months as ADD’s technical staff has redesigned the ADDTag interface. Coupled with ADD’s DMV123, NMVTIS title check, ELT and newly updated Florida fee calculator the new ADDTag platform is extremely user friendly. The new platform also allows ADD to display all of its newly planned services including the DHSMV’s reimagined Electronic Filing System (EFS).

With ever-increasing competition for vehicles, smart recyclers are using tools to make better purchases, especially when trying to buy more expensive vehicles. Most management systems have tools to quickly identify which parts are needed and determine a purchase price, assuming key parts are in working/resellable order- but how can a buyer determine what parts are good? Online sales mean that many buyers often can’t see or physically inspect the vehicles they are bidding on, and are relying on the auction photos to determine the “good” parts. Unfortunately, many people have figured out that physical inspections are becoming less frequent and some vehicles being sent to auctions are not what they seem. With many parts escalating in value, more and more vehicles are being sent to salvage auctions where the integrity of the parts in a vehicle falls under the “AS-IS” designation.

Recently, ADD was asked how we use the information we receive from towing customers on towed and impounded vehicles, owner and lienholder inquiries and notification letters. “Does ADD sell information on towed cars to lenders?” the user asked. “Why did a lienholder call about an impound that I hadn’t mailed letters on yet?”
