Have you ever towed an abandoned vehicle from public property that was authorized by law enforcement? Did you then have a Certificate of Destruction (CD) issued on the vehicle in your company’s name? If so, you have the option to place a Wrecker Operator lien (WO lien) on that vehicle, which will place a stop on all the current registrations. Supported by Florida Statute 713.78, a wrecker operator lien is a wonderful opportunity for Florida wrecker operators to attempt to recover the costs incurred for recovery, towing and a week’s storage. Once the WO lien is placed on a vehicle, it will remain in effect for five years.

ADD has the information and tools necessary for towing companies to place the lien in a cost-effective and time-saving manner. In three easy steps using the ADD system, Florida wrecker operators are able to utilize Florida law to recover monies owed due to towing an abandoned vehicle!

If you are already issuing a certificate of destruction on a vehicle using ADD’s DirectPost-Office, and the vehicle meets the requirements for a WO lien (an abandoned vehicle towed from public property that was authorized by law enforcement and has had a certificate of destruction issued in your company’s name), simply add a WO lien to your DPO packet. First, click Attach Forms and select Wrecker Operator Lien from the dropdown menu. The WO lien will be included with the paperwork when you take it to the DMV or Tax Collector’s office to be processed.

If you haven’t created your Certificate of Destruction forms using ADD’s DirectPost-Office system, first run the VIN number under the Search DMV123 tab to retrieve the vehicle, owner, lienholder, and insurer information associated with that vehicle. Next, click Select Form Type and select Wrecker Operator Lien from the dropdown menu. Finally, verify your company information, fill out the required fields for the tow date, and the amount of recovery and towing and storage fees, and then choose your mailing option.
