California Legislation

Read the CA DMV Dealer Alert regarding the new law.

Under California’s Assembly Bill 1215, as of July 1, 2012, every motor vehicle dealer licensed in the state of California must obtain a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) vehicle history report for every used vehicle that will be offered for retail sale. Read a copy of the bill.

If a NMVTIS vehicle history report for a used vehicle indicates that the vehicle is or has been a junk automobile or a salvage automobile or the vehicle has been reported as a junk automobile or a salvage automobile by a junk yard, salvage yard, or insurance carrier, or the certificate of title contains a brand, the dealer must affix a NMVTIS warning label (right).

What is NMVTIS?

National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is a national, federally-mandated vehicle history database maintained by the United States Department of Justice to ensure that states, law enforcement agencies, and consumers have access to vehicle titling, branding, and other information that enable them to verify the accuracy and legality of motor vehicle titles before transfer or registration of the vehicle occurs. Visit the Department of Justice vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov website.

AutoDataDirect, Inc. NMVTIS Solutions

Auto Data Direct, Inc. (ADD) was founded in 1999 to provide real-time motor vehicle data to companies that require vehicle information to conduct daily business. ADD has been an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider since 2009, and offers many additional services for businesses nationwide.

ADD’s business model is to offer industry-specific solutions for any size of business, and support our products with the most responsive and personalized customer service possible.

ADD offers four different methods for affected businesses to access vehicle history reports:

Pay-Per-Pull

NMVTIS Pay-Per-Pull allows users to access reports via ADD’s website on a one- by-one basis. Ideal for smaller dealerships, NMVTIS reports are pulled as needed through ADD’s no-hassle pre-paid account. For a low per-record cost, user can access both the concise corporate report and the expanded, consumer- friendly version of the NMVTIS vehicle history. Reports remain available in a secure account archive for 90 days, and authorized NMVTIS warning labels can be purchased from ADD, when needed.

Batch Processing

ADD’s batch system allows dealers to pull multiple records at one time - great for initial inventory loads or high-volume users!

ADD also offers AutoPay so dealers never have to worry about running short of funds in their pre-paid account. [Contact ADD](mailto:info@add123.com?subject=NMVTIS AutoPay) for more info on AutoPay.

ADD StiQR System

ADD StiQR (pronounced “sticker”) is an innovative lead-generation tool that uses QR code technology to deliver NMVTIS reports to the consumer via a window sticker. ADD StiQRs integrate NMVTIS histories, dealer marketing, vehicle information, photos, video, web and social media into a mobile-friendly sales tool.

Car buyers scan the QR code with any smartphone, and are linked to a vehicle- specific landing page displaying the dealer information and the vehicle’s NMVTIS history. Email, internet and social network sharing tools allow the consumer to access and share all the information necessary to make a purchase decision, while providing the dealer with cutting-edge inventory feedback and lead generation.

DMS Integration

Business-to-business integration via an Advanced Programming Interface (API) is available for NMVTIS reports and ADD StiQR. DMS integration is a seamless way for software providers to offer ADD NMVTIS reports within existing products.
